FY2025 Diversity Lottery Online Registration Opens October 4, 2023

The Diversity Lottery online registration for FY2025 opens on October 4, 2023, at 12:00 PM ET and runs until November 7, 2023, at 12:00 PM ET. This immigration pathway, unique to the United States, allows citizens of countries with low rates of immigration to the U.S. to apply for lawful permanent residence through a lottery system. In turn, the U.S. benefits from a diverse set of new lawful permanent resident immigrants from countries around the world.

Due to the nature of the program, countries whose citizens make up a large number of immigrants to the U.S. every year are typically not included in Diversity Lottery eligibility. For FY2025, citizens from these countries are not eligible for the Diversity Lottery:

• Bangladesh
• Brazil
• Canada
• China, including Hong Kong SAR (natives of Macau SAR and Taiwan are eligible)
• Columbia
• Dominican Republic
• El Salvador
• Haiti
• Honduras
• India
• Jamaica
• Mexico
• Nigeria
• Pakistan
• Philippines
• Republic of Korea (South Korea)
• Venezuela
• Vietnam

Eligible individuals must possess at least a high school diploma or its equivalent or two years of work experience in an occupation that requires at least two years of training or experience. The State Department allocates 50,000 visas for this category each fiscal year.

Those who meet these qualifications can submit a registration through the U.S. Department of State website. Registrations to enter the lottery are free of charge, however, visa processing fees will apply if selected in the lottery. Detailed instructions on the Department of State website can be found here. Results of the DV-2025 lottery will be available on the E-DV site on May 4, 2024.
