Event for Attorneys: Hear the Latest on DACA and the Trump Administration’s Immigration Plans from LHSC’s Wendy Castor Hess and Yuah Jessica Choi

September 8, 2017

As part of PBI’s upcoming CLE conference in Philadelphia, Wendy Castor Hess will be leading a course titled “U.S. Immigration Law Under the Trump Administration: Survival Tactics in a World of Chaos.” Yuah Jessica Choi will also speak during the course, adding her expertise on employment-based immigration options.  The conference will take place at the CLE Conference Center in the Wanamaker Building from 9:00 am to 4:15 pm, and will also be simulcast at PBI and Bar Association facilities throughout the sate. For those who cannot attend in person, the entire conference will be presented via live Webcast. See pbi.org for registration information.

About the Course

General practitioners have always had to know enough about immigration law to responsibly address client needs and ensure proper representation is provided, particularly because immigration law overlaps with so many other areas of law, including family, employment, and criminal law. With the Trump administration’s very targeted focus on immigration, it is particularly important for practitioners to understand the immigration system at this moment in time, so that they can properly counsel their clients in an atmosphere of increased work site crackdowns, detention and removal of immigrants and bans on immigrants from certain countries. The following crucial areas in this changing immigration landscape will be discussed:

  • The immigration vocabulary
  • Worksite compliance- employer liability
  • Employment-based immigration options
  • Undocumented immigrants—civil rights and immigration remedies, including asylum and cancellation of removal
  • Family law issues for “mixed families”: family action plans in the event of ice detention
  • Criminal immigration (crimimm): the new definition of “criminal” in 2017
  • Sanctuary cities-how will the state and federal governments deal with them?
