DHS Terminates CHNV Parole Processes: What You Need to Know

On March 25, 2025, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a notice in the Federal Register announcing the termination of the categorical parole programs for inadmissible noncitizens from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela (CHNV) and their immediate family members.

Key Points:

Termination of Parole Programs: The DHS notice officially ends (effective March 25, 2025) the CHNV parole programs, which previously allowed certain inadmissible noncitizens from these countries to enter the U.S. temporarily on humanitarian grounds.
- The DHS will cancel all pending applications and revoke the approval of applicants who have not travelled to the U.S.
- All CHNV parole grants will be terminated on April 24, 2025.
Impact on Current Parolees: Individuals currently on parole under these programs may face immediate removal priorities if they have not applied for lawful status, such as Temporary Protected Status (TPS).
- Parolees must depart the United States before their termination date or April 24, 2025, whichever is earlier.
