Department of State Releases August 2025 Visa Bulletin

July 16, 2025

The DOS released its August 2025 Visa Bulletin. For August 2025, USCIS determines that for all family-sponsored preference categories, you must use the Dates for Filing chart in the Department of State Visa Bulletin for August 2025. For all employment-based preference categories, you must use the Final Action Dates chart in the Department of State Visa Bulletin for August 2025.

Next month’s charts appear below. A date listed for any class indicates that the class is oversubscribed. “C” means current (i.e., numbers are authorized for issuance to all qualified applicants). “U” means unauthorized (i.e., numbers are not authorized for issuance).

Importantly, warnings in the upcoming visa bulleting are issued for specific EB (Employment-Based) preference visa categories.

Specifically:

  • EB-2 Category for “Rest of World Countries”:  Due to the increased number use within this category, the annual limit is projected to be reached in August. Therefore, the final action date will retrogress (September 1, 2023) to slow the issuance rate and not reach the annual limit. Once the annual limit is reached the preference category will be listed as unauthorized (“U”), and no further visas will be issued at that time.

  • EB-3 and Other Workers (EW) Categories: Due to demand and number use, annual limits for these visa categories are close to being reached. The DOS projects that these categories will either retrogress or be listed as “U” by September, if not sooner.

To discuss what the dates in the August Visa Bulletin and the specific category warnings may mean for your case, please contact the attorney at LHSCD working on your case.  Alternatively, you may set up a consultation with one of our attorneys by filling out our Consultation Request Form.
