DHS Terminating TPS for Nepal

On June 6, 2025, DHS Secretary issued a notice that the designation of Nepal for TPS will be terminated. The Secretary determined that, “overall, there are notable improvements in environmental disaster preparedness and response capacity, as well as substantial reconstruction from the earthquake’s destruction such that there is no longer a disruption of living conditions and Nepal is able to handle adequately the return of its nationals.” Subsequently, DHS Secretary determined that Nepal no longer continues to meet the conditions for its designation of TPS. The designation is set to expire on June 24, 2025. Individuals who have been granted TPS under this designation will no longer have legal status in the United States after August 5, 2025. Foreign nationals from Nepal will have their work authorization taken away and may be at risk for deportation. This will impact approximately 7,500 Nepal nationals.
