Reminder to Employers to Use New I-9 Form Effective May 7, 2013

May 7, 2013

On March 8, 2013, the USCIS released its new I-9 form. Please note that the prior versions of Form I-9 (Rev. 08/07/09 and 02/02/09) can no longer be used by the public effective May 7, 2013. The newly revised form is available online.

The Federal Register publication announcing this new form provides the following key revisions:

  • Adding data fields, including the employee’s foreign passport information (if applicable) and telephone and email addresses.
  • Improving the form’s instructions.
  • Revising the layout of the form, expanding the form from one to two pages (not including the form instructions and the List of Acceptable Documents).

All employers are required to complete and retain a Form I-9 for each employee hired to work in the United States.  This new I-9 form must be used for all new employees and for reverification of previously hired employees.  Please contact us with any questions about this new I-9 form.
