November 26, 2024
On November 26, 2024, the Department of Homeland Security (“DHS”) posted a Federal Register Notice designating Lebanon for Temporary Protected Status (“TPS”) for 18 months, beginning on November 27, 2024, and ending on May 27, 2026. DHS previously announced that the TPS designation resulted from “ongoing armed conflict and extraordinary and temporary conditions in Lebanon that prevent nationals of Lebanon from returning in safety.” DHS estimates that 11,000 Lebanese nationals (and individuals having no nationality who last habitually resided in Lebanon) who have been continuously residing in the United States since Oct. 16, 2024, and who have been continuously physically present in the United States since Nov. 27, 2024, will be eligible to apply for TPS under this designation.
Applicants for TPS under this designation must submit Form I-821 (“Application for Temporary Protected Status”) during the initial registration period that runs from November 27, 2024 through May 27, 2026. Applicants can also apply for a TPS-related Employment Authorization Document (“EAD”) by submitting a completed Form I-765 (“Application for Employment Authorization”) with their Form I-821, or separately later.
