The White House has announced a new policy governing international air travel which expected to be implemented in early November. This new policy, which focuses on the vaccination status of international travelers, will replace the international travel bans currently in place. The new policy would also eliminate the need to seek a National Interest Exception to the current travel bans in order to facilitate international travel from those countries covered by the bans.
Instead, the new policy sets guidelines for international air travelers based on vaccination status. Fully vaccinated foreign nationals will be permitted to fly to the U.S. with proof of their vaccination status, as well as a negative COVID-19 test from within three days of their flight. Unvaccinated foreign nationals will generally be banned from international air travel to the United States, including those from countries not previously included in travel bans.
Please note that this new policy does not apply to land border ports of entry with Canada and Mexico. We expect further details about the specific implementation of the new policy to be released in the coming weeks, including which vaccines will be accepted.
